Environmental Specialist – Renewable Energy Projects

A leading developer in the renewable energy sector is seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist to join their expanding team. In this role, you will bring vital expertise to ensure environmental and social risks are effectively managed across a diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders, you will play a key part in integrating international best practices within local regulatory frameworks to deliver compliant and sustainable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) and risk analyses across project phases – from development to construction – ensuring alignment with both local and international standards.
- Develop and implement strategies to address environmental data gaps in collaboration with internal teams and external specialists.
- Liaise with financial institutions, regulators, and local authorities to ensure project alignment with financing, permitting, and environmental requirements.
- Oversee the design and implementation of Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAP) and stakeholder grievance mechanisms.
- Monitor environmental and social performance during construction phases and produce regular reports with actionable recommendations.
Requirements:
The client is looking for a driven and knowledgeable professional with a strong track record in environmental and social risk management for renewable energy projects. You will be passionate about sustainability and well-versed in both local regulations and international standards.
Essential Criteria:
- Bachelor's and Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Development, or a related field.
- Extensive knowledge of frameworks such as the IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, and World Bank Guidelines.
- Proven experience managing full ESIA processes, from scoping and survey design to compliance and reporting.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to lead multi-stakeholder consultations.
- Comfortable working within cross-functional teams, including biodiversity and social impact experts.
